Safari, Masai Mara: 2007 : From Friday June 29th to Sunday July 1st, we took long weekend to go on Safari in the Masai Mara National Reserve. It was quite an adventure; the 5 hour drive from Nairobi to the reserve was very interesting to say the least. I (Ray) have been teaching Social Studies this past week and our discussions have been on how important improving Kenya's infrastructure is.. well considering most of those 5 hours were driven on the side of the main road in the dirt because the road itself is in worse condition - it really puts in perspective that we are in a 3rd world country. Also- it was very difficult for us to experience both the beauty of the country side and animals in comparison of the Mukuru Slum we teach in during the week. The slum is truly horrific, dirty, muddy, impoverished, etc. And to know that most of the people living in the slums will never have a chance to experience the other side of Kenya is one of the many challenges we have faced. On a lighter side- the Safari was an amazing experience! We felt as if we should have been hosting a National Geographic Film!

San Miguel de Allende; June 2007 : From June 3rd - June 11th Julie and I lead a group of 11 Chaminade students to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico for a Mission Trip. We worked with an organization called Casa de los Angeles (House of Angels), the focus of the trip was to provide care and support for the children of the center as well as help build their new facility. Grand Tetons: May 2007 : This past May I had the opportunity to travel to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for a week of hiking in the Grand Teton's with the Chaminade 6th Grade. It was an Awesome and beautiful experience.
